How to Travel with Sex Toys

Picture it: You are going through airport security and suddenly your carry-on bag starts to buzz. TSA digs through your bag and produces – voila  – your favorite vibrating dildo! It’s embarrassing, but you will probably survive. But if an overeager TSA agent decides your buzzing bag is threatening homeland security, you may have to undergo some unpleasant inspections and interrogations. Here are a few simple tips on how to travel with your sex toys to avoid any hitches.

If your sex toys are a regular part of your sex life, you will probably want to take them along on vacation or on a business trip. Maybe you are traveling to a wedding and are bringing a ‘special’ gift for the bride and her bachelorette party. Regardless, most sex toys are battery operated and can look suspicious in a baggage scanner; not to mention the tell-tale buzzing.

First order of business: remove the batteries. Put them in a baggy and store them separately in your luggage. No buzzing = no embarrassment. If you have a toy that is rechargeable, see if it has a disable feature and deactivate your toy that way. If accidentally buttons are pushed, the toy won’t start up.

Don’t wrap your vibrator in your sweater. Put your adult toys in individual clear plastic bags and store them between your clothes. This way, the inspecting agent can see right away what is there and doesn’t have to whip it out in front of everyone. This will also avoid anyone else directly touching your toy. At this point you can also ask the screener to have your bag inspected in private. This will avoid other travelers pointing fingers when you’re sharing a plane with them for the next six hours.

When asked what ‘this’ is, be honest. Don’t start concocting a story to save face. You could get into some serious trouble with security. It’s not like people don’t know what sex toys are. Just be matter-of-fact about it. Less is more in this case.

Another solution to this security-sex toy dilemma is getting a toy specifically for traveling. Many companies are offering small vibrators that can be discreetly lodged in your purse and might pass for a lipstick. You’ll still want to remove the batteries and store them separately.

Are you carrying lubricant in your on-board bags? Remember that the 3 ounce rule applies here, too. If your bottle is bigger than that, put it in your checked luggage.

Follow these simple tips and traveling with your sex toys will be a breeze!
